UC San Diego - Volunteer50

Education

Volunteer50 is a call to service by Chancellor Pradeep Khosla. He is challenging all students, faculty, staff, alumni and university friends to perform 50 hours of community service during the academic year. The volunteer challenge will last 10 months, from September to the end of June. Our goals are to support the university's mission of service, showcase the widespread and diverse contributions of the UC San Diego community and highlight the number of hours of volunteer service we are collectively giving back to the community.

Meet Volunteer50 Member Angela Ngo
News

Every Tuesday night, Angela Ngo tutors middle and high school students at Reality Changers—a San Diego organization designed to support and encourage low-income students who will be the first in their family to attend college.

A UC San Diego undergraduate student, Ngo is studying biochemistry and cell biology with a minor in public service and is part of Circle K, the campus’s largest community service organization.

“I’ve always had a passion for helping others through community service,” said Ngo. “If one person alone can make a difference, then imagine how great of an impact we could collectively make.”

Recently, Ngo spent time in a village in Nicaragua where she taught children English and math skills and assisted in constructing the community’s first library. “It was eye-opening to see how much the children were determined to learn despite the obstacles they had to face.”
