Every Tuesday night, Angela Ngo tutors middle and high school students at Reality Changers—a San Diego organization designed to support and encourage low-income students who will be the first in their family to attend college.

A UC San Diego undergraduate student, Ngo is studying biochemistry and cell biology with a minor in public service and is part of Circle K, the campus’s largest community service organization.

“I’ve always had a passion for helping others through community service,” said Ngo. “If one person alone can make a difference, then imagine how great of an impact we could collectively make.”

Recently, Ngo spent time in a village in Nicaragua where she taught children English and math skills and assisted in constructing the community’s first library. “It was eye-opening to see how much the children were determined to learn despite the obstacles they had to face.”
